Dedicated Help for Heroes supporters Adrian and Wendy Lucas have undertaken all manner of fundraising activities to support the Charity; from taking on the five-day Big Battlefield bike ride to tackling the Great North Run. However, it’s not just physical challenges the couple have found can make fundraising fly.

By simply having a stall at the local car boot sale, the pair have boosted their fundraising total to date to an incredible £4,951.

Car boot sales are not only an opportunity to clear out old or unwanted items – they also offer a fantastic way to get out in the community and let people know what you are fundraising for.

Here are their top tips on using a car boot sale to boost your fundraising total:

If you don’t have lots to sell why not ask friends, relatives and colleagues to donate – everyone loves a good clear out!

Obtain or borrow a table to display your items and use some tri-stripe price labels to help with the sales on the day.

Most car boot sales will give a charity discount. Once you have registered your event, a letter can be issued by the team at Help for Heroes if needed.

Toys usually sell well, and quality pre-loved items can be obtained for free from various advertising sites online, so it’s worth keeping an eye out before your event.

Don't get too attached to an item or you will end up bringing it home! But don’t worry too much if you don’t sell everything; keeping a flow of good things is useful if you are planning to sell regularly.

Most boot sales start early so be prepared for an early set-up time. Pack a flask of tea and some snacks to keep you going throughout the day!

The Help for Heroes banner is great as it will attract some people who would just like to make a donation to the Charity.

Place your collection tin somewhere safe on display, so people can give you their spare change if they wish.
