Michael has been recently discharged from service. He is living with a degenerative spinal condition (lumbar spine disease) which causes chronic pain and limited mobility. He also has arthritis in the lower lumbar which adds to his pain and mobility issues.
Michael said: “It means more to me than I could possibly say to be involved in the Invictus Games. Before my injury I played every sport you can think of. When I got injured I felt I had lost any hope of playing again but training and playing for the Newcastle Eagles Wheelchair Basketball team has given me back what I had lost, the sessions of rugby and archery I have taken part in have also opened doors I thought were closed forever. My main focus since taking part in these sessions has been the Invictus Games. Over the past 2 years I have lost 7.5 stones in weight - sport has played a part in that and it is an honour to now be part of the Invictus team.
