In the last 20 years, 40,000 wounded men and women have been medically discharged from the Armed Forces, their injuries ending the career they have given their all to. Today we unveiled our 40,000 Strong installation at Manchester’s Arndale Centre to represent the number medically discharged since 1999 and to show the scale of the need.
Thousands of those discharged fall through gaps in the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD’s) support. A recent survey revealed that 70% felt their transition to civilian life was a negative experience. *
We’re on a mission to ensure all wounded veterans get the support they deserve and we are calling on the Government to review the medical discharge process to ensure those forced to leave the military as a result of injuries or illness are given the best possible opportunity to land on their feet and transition well into civilian life.
Many of the 40,000 have been, or are still, in need of support. Some find that when they are discharged, they simply don’t know how or where to access help.
We’re asking you to show your commitment to our wounded by donating to receive your very own boxed figure from the 40,000 Strong Manchester installation. Every donation will help us fight to fix the gaps in support and help those whose lives have been derailed by injury.
