Congratulations Team Catterick!

Tuesday 21 February 2017

Beneficiaries from all four Help for Heroes Recovery Centres travelled to Tedworth House in Wiltshire last week to take part in the 2017 Phoenix Winter Games at Tedworth House. The week was full of variety, with Sled Dog Racing, Sled Hockey, Skiing, Curling, Archery and lots of mini activities in between.

The results were close all week, even on the final day but Catterick managed to take the lead to be crowned the Winter Games champions. The teams celebrated their fun-filled week with a Gala Awards dinner.

The final results were:

  • 1st - Catterick
  • 2nd - Colchester
  • 3rd - Tedworth
  • 4th - Plymouth

The games have been designed to bring together serving personnel and veterans recovering from injury or illness and give them an opportunity to enjoy some healthy competition in a fun environment, and although the week was very competitive - everyone had a good time.

"I wouldn't change anything about the week. I tried so many sports I never would have otherwise, but my favourite part of the week were the morning briefs, it was a great way to start the morning with everyone together and laughing."
"The games have been inspirational and motivational, words can't describe the feeling of inner strength and the other participants give each other."
"The camaraderie and banter amongst the teams has been amazing. It was so easy to unwind and relax with everyone.
"The week was just superb, it exceeded my expectations, I can't convey how much I've enjoyed the whole week."
Congratulations Team Catterick!
