Get Help
If you’re in pain, or if you feel anxious, stressed or lonely, we can help.
Financial support for you and your family
Life isn’t always straightforward when you leave the Armed Forces, we get it. So if you are struggling financially, we might be able to lighten the load. Our range of one-off grants is designed to make your life easier or support your care needs. And if we can’t fund something ourselves, we’ll try to help you find someone else who might be able to.
We offer grant support to anyone who has served in the UK Armed Forces, and those who have served under UK command during conflict.
We can help support your clinical and daily living needs, and short term cost of living challenges. Examples of how we might help include:
If you have a physical disability that resulted from an illness or injury sustained during your service, you may be eligible for a life-changing grant or equipment to help with your mobility.
The fund can provide equipment not usually available on the NHS. Find out more about the Veterans Mobility Fund fund and how to apply.
We are unable to provide support for the following items, although in some cases other organisations might be able to help.
Funeral costs, legal fees, employment or vocational expenses, immigration costs and visas, annuities or regular financial assistance (e.g. pensions), and care home fees.
If you are entitled to state benefits or extra support from the NHS, your council or other services, we ask that you apply for these first. We can help you with that. For example, gas, water and electricity companies are obliged to offer some customers extra support.
Eligibility is assessed on a case-by-case basis, and we may assess your household income when we receive an application. This usually includes asking you to provide us with bank statements along with your application form.
If you are new to Help for Heroes, you'll need to go through our Get Help process. You can call our friendly helpline team on 0300 303 9888, or complete the online form.
