After leaving the Army in 2012, Sonny found himself homeless and struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He came to us for support and found solace in walking his dog, Delta.
Fast forward to 2021, Sonny founded GoWalkies, a dedicated app that connects dog walkers with dog owners. The app, available on iOS and Android, provides walkers the opportunity to grow their business, enabling them to keep 100% of their earnings, and gives owners complete peace of mind over the care of their four-legged friends. The app even allows walkers to share their walk location and images in real-time via the in-app tracking features.
Sonny was passionate about giving back to Help for Heroes and decided to become a charity partner, donating a percentage of GoWalkies’ annual profits in support of our wounded veterans and their families. Experiencing first-hand the benefits dog walking brought to his mental health, Sonny is also keen to encourage other veterans to consider a dog walking business as an alternative career opportunity.
“Help for Heroes is an incredible charity and one that is very close to my heart, having received support for PTSD after leaving the Army in 2012. Therefore, not only did I want to form a new partnership with the charity to ensure I could give back, but I also wanted to engage veterans who have left the military and are thinking about new career opportunities that can help improve their mental health, such as dog walking” says Sonny.
“Although the app has only just been launched, we have already received an incredible response and I am looking forward to driving its growth and continuing to support Help for Heroes over the coming months.”
