Our charity partner Vauxhall is very proud to have achieved its £250,000 fund raising target.
Vauxhall Sponsorship Manager Cheryl Stibbs handed over a cheque for £250,000 to Vauxhall's Help for Heroes Ambassador, Derek Derenalagai.
Vauxhall would like to say "Thank you" to everyone who has been involved and assisted in reaching this amazing goal.
It doesn’t stop here though. With 2014 being such an important year for the armed forces, with the centenary of World War 1 and also the withdrawal from Afghanistan of our servicemen and women, they are trying to raise £300,000 by the end of year!
Throughout last year the team at Vauxhall has made an incredible effort to fundraise for Help for Heroes, from a London tube challenge to the London to Paris bike ride!
Vauxhall also continues to support the Help for Heroes team with vehicles, recently handing over three Astra Sport Tourers to use to support their work, with the Vauxhall Movano van also busy touring the country selling merchandise in aid of Help for Heroes.
Vauxhall workers go the extra mile for Heroes
A team of Vauxhall employees completed a 300-mile cycle ride from London to Paris, raising £10,000 for Help for Heroes. Exceeding all expectations the Vauxhall team completed the epic journey from Tower Bridge (London) to the Eiffel tower in under 60 hours! The Vauxhall team battled through adverse weather conditions on both sides of the channel to reach the goal. Using special Mio Cyclo bike sat navs donated by MiTAC Europe to conquer the roads of South-East England and Northern France within 48 hours and then Paris just before the 60 hour mark
This spirited achievement has made it possible for Help for Heroes to buy ex-serviceman Nathan Cumberland a state-of-the-art custom hand-bike, enabling him to compete in ‘Battle Back’ a Help for Heroes initiative. Nathan said ‘it’s an awesome bit of kit, absolutely top notch. Since undergoing operations, my weight has fluctuated so I wanted to get back on to the bike’.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Vauxhall Workers save the day!
Vauxhall swapped their suits for superhero costumes, collecting money in aid of Help for Heroes. The Hero day was held across all UK sites, where a collection raised a fantastic £1387.73.
Vauxhall sings out for Great British Heroes
On Saturday 23 November 2013 the Vauxhall Male Voice Choir hosted a charity Christmas concert in aid of Help for Heroes. The manufacturer-backed choir, along with pupils aged between 9 and 13 from Ashton Middle School’s children’s choir in Dunstable performed Christmas classics at the concert held in St Mary’s Church Luton.
The concert managed to raise a fantastic £2300, with Derek Derenalagi, Vauxhall's Help for Heroes Ambassador, also making a special appearance. People also got a chance to look at the “send a message to a hero” competition entries, with messages sent in from a number of schools in Luton. The winners were picked out on the night, with each receiving a Hero Teddy Bear.
Employees Visit to Tedworth House
On Tuesday 12 November a group of 14 Vauxhall employees took a trip down to Tedworth House Recovery Centre in Wiltshire for a tour of the great facilities, looking at the great gym facilities, rehabilitation pool, and indoor dry ski slope, along with an overview of the great courses they can offer to troops to help them in the future.
The tour also offered a chance for employees to see the brilliant family room Vauxhall has sponsored at Tedworth, a room that allows the troops to be with their families when they take a visit to the house, something very valuable to them, and Vauxhall are delighted to be able to help facilitate that.
