Mobil 1 Team Sussex are a group of students from the University of Sussex who have designed and built a race car in order to compete in the International Formula student competition. Team Patron is Richard Noble, the former world land speed record holder.
Formula Student is run by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and is primarily about designing and manufacturing a prototype single seater racing car aimed at the non-professionalweekend racer. The competition provides participating students with real-world engineering experience not only in design and manufacture, but in team management, marketing, finance and to work under the pressures of tight time scales, efficient team working and strict specifications. More details can be found on www.teamsussex.eu
As part of their activities in raising team funds M1TS have pledged to share their earnings from their supporters organisation, The Nosecone Club, with Help for Heroes. Members have their photograph displayed on the nosecone of the car - hence the name. Current members include Richard Noble OBE, Johnson Beharry VC, Lewis Hamilton MBE, Sanjeev Bhaskar (Kumars at 42), Mark Evans (TV presenter), Adrian Newey (of RedBull Racing) and DJ Chris Evans. Whenever Johnson Beharry VC has appeared with the team he sells signed copies of his book and donates the profits to The Nosecone Club, which are then shared with Help for Heroes. Recent appearances include the official launch of the car and the British Grand Prix.
This weekend the team will be appearing at the 3 day Festival of Speed at Goodwood. Johnson will be with them some and possibly all days to help increase the pot. The Sun newspaper will also be sharing our stand and will be undertaking further fund raising activities.
